Pilates – Contrology

Pilates is a holistic workout.

Mindful exercise strengthens the body and mind. It not only trains the outer muscles – the ones you can see in the mirror – but above all Pilates strengthens the inner or so-called postural muscles. This results in a balanced development of the body and leads to a better posture, more balance, a strong body center – the so-called ‚core‘ or ‘powerhouse’ – and more mobility and flexibility.

Pain is often due to asymmetries of the body. Pilates can alleviate this kind of pain with its corrective exercises by balancing out asymmetries and strengthening the body.

Or as Joseph Pilates put it,”Contrology * develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” **

* Contrology is what Pilates himself called his method.
